Art in Vain

“All art is quite useless.” -Oscar Wilde

Out with you, worthless Mona Lisa,
we have no need for your silent mystery.

Out, out, starry night,
Out, landscapes, out, sunsets,
Begone with your picturesque views of reality.

Out with you, abstraction,
your lack of meaning is maddening.
Photography, leave us,
we can see just fine without your clumsy lens.
Leave us, high contrast views of New York
and fine lines of the Eiffel Tower,
and to the nude model reclining on the chair,
Go put on some clothes and make something with your life.

Out with you, poetry,
and take your clouded messages with you.
Music, we have no use for you,
our souls can be stirred without your melodious sentiment.

Out, out, architecture,
and you too, design,
You are worthless to us.

Out, contours of the body,
Out with you, rhythmous heartbeat.
Out out out, pulsating lungs.

Colors and textures, leave this place,
Beauty, depart from me.
We do not need you in a world such as this.
